Thomas Mundy Peterson Day is celebrated in New Jersey on March 31st. The day recognizes Thomas Mundy Peterson’s historic vote as the  first African American voter in the U.S. Thomas Mundy Peterson was a resident of Perth Amboy and voted first here.  On Friday March 31 there is a tree planting at 1pm at City Hall Circle to honor Thomas Mundy Peterson and a free historical lecture about him at the Perth Amboy Public Library at 7pm. (The tree planting ceremony will happen inside Council Chambers due to weather.)
