After years of service to Middlesex County, Freeholder Blanquita Valenti, from New Brunswick, will step down at the end of this year. The Perth Amboy Democratic Organization has endorsed Perth Amboy Councilman Joel Pabon Sr. to fill her position. This is an opportunity for Perth Amboy to have a leadership position on the County level, which controls millions of dollars in funding annually to our County in programs and direct aid.
Councilman Joel Pabon Sr, a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy, is a highly qualified candidate with a record of service and leadership. He is a 23 year US Army Military Veteran and served in a leadership position as First Sergeant. He has 30 years experience at the US Post Office for Perth Amboy where he served as a manager. He has served since 2011 as a Perth Amboy Councilman and has been City Council President. He has served as a Perth Amboy School Board Member. He has been a Board Member of Proprietary House and has been a Recreation Department Committee Member.
With Joel Pabon Sr.’s nomination to fill this important position, we see a further advance of Perth Amboy’s leadership in the State. Perth Amboy at one time was known as a political powerhouse and we are on the move again. We elected the first Latina Mayor in the State, Mayor Wilda Diaz. We now have Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez from Perth Amboy representing us in Trenton.
The vote will take place on March 11 at West Hall, Middlesex County College, 2600 Woodbridge Ave in Edison. The decision makers will be the approximately 1200 Democratic committeemen and women who are elected at the neighborhood level in towns throughout Middlesex County, who will vote by secret ballot. Their decision will be made after hearing the candidates.
