In 2025, Perth Amboy High School Science Teacher Mark Niebojeski awarded Omaida Smith and Naomi Romero (pictured above) the Mark Niebojeski Health Science Scholarship he created to honor his students in his Emergency Medical Responder certification course. The course is the senior capstone class for students in the Medical Track of the Health Science Academy at Perth Amboy High School. The award is given to a student or students who are not only academically strong in the course, but who also possess a high level of empathy and compassion for others both in and outside of the classroom.

The first scholarship was given in 2024 to his student Valery Paulino. Since he founded the scholarship and started fundraising he has raised and distributed $5000 in scholarship funds. The recipients plan to further their career in a health related field. Funds for the award came from his donations and from donations from supporters on his gofundme page.
