Perth Amboy Public Schools audit reveals gross financial mismanagement AFTNJ Prez says

Perth Amboy School Audit

AFT New Jersey President Jennifer S. Higgins issued a statement responding to the recently released audit of Perth Amboy Public Schools conducted by state auditor David J. Kaschak that revealed a deficit of $13,040,742, along with other examples of gross financial mismanagement.

“This is more than an accounting failure,” Higgins said. “It’s a failure of fiduciary responsibility that directly impacts the students, families and educators of Perth Amboy. Every dollar mismanaged is a lost opportunity to reduce class sizes, provide essential learning materials, support student services, and ensure that our schools remain vibrant, safe places to learn and grow.”

“Our educators and support staff give their all every day to serve Perth Amboy’s children. They deserve leadership that safeguards the resources entrusted to the district, not millions of dollars unaccounted for with absolutely no accountability in sight. Taxpayers deserve accountability. But most importantly, our students deserve better.”

The Perth Amboy Federation (AFT Local 857), representing teachers and support staff, urges the Perth Amboy community to attend the Perth Amboy Board of Education presentation of the audit at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Perth Amboy High School on Convery Boulevard. Members of the Perth Amboy Federation will be present to stand together for transparency, accountability, and a brighter future for our schools and students.
