There are some great events planned in Perth Amboy to celebrate Black History Month. The Perth Amboy Gallery Center for the Arts will host a Black History Month Art Exhibit on Thursday Feb 26 from 6-8:30pm. The exhibit called “A Century of Black History” will honor the people, stories and milestones that shaped Black History in Perth Amboy. The Perth Amboy Gallery Center for the Arts is located at 339 Reade St in Perth Amboy. The event is free and open to the public. The event is part of Perth Amboy’s America 250 Celebration.
The Perth Amboy Free Public Library will host its annual Black History Month Celebration on Saturday February 28th from noon-3pm. The fun educational event will feature cultural food, music and performances for the whole family to enjoy. The program is hosted by Carole Dortch-Wright, and will also feature America 250 Keynote speaker Leslie Arthur, and Community Legacy Speaker Robert McCoy. The Renee Skelton Award will be presented to Carolyn Maxwell. There will be performances by Comedian Ron Snipes and Saxophone Performance by David Cross. The event will also feature prizes and giveaways, children’s activities, face painting, a history exhibit, an art exhibit, music and table vendors. The event is free and open to the public. The library is located at downtown at 196 Jefferson St.
The Puerto Rican Association for Human Development (PRAHD) will host their 12th Annual Black History Month Celebration on Saturday February 28 from noon-3pm. The event will feature the presentation of the Artuo Alfonso Schomburg Award to Donita Judge Esq. a nationally recognized civil rights attorney, voting‑rights champion, and Associate Executive Director at the Center for Constitutional Rights. PRAHD is located at 100 First St in Perth Amboy. RSVP online.
