The NAACP Perth Amboy branch was organized on September 8, 1941 in response to increasing discrimination, racial prejudice, and unjust policy. In response to heightened violence and hostility during the 1940’s through the 1970’s, members of the branch joined forces with students and civil rights/labor activists from Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy, and Woodbridge Township to conduct mass demonstrations such as boycotts, walkouts, sit-ins, protest marches, and picket lines. NAACP Perth Amboy is working to reclaim the legacy and continue the fight!
