A highlight of the Perth Amboy Dominican Festival this past weekend on the waterfront in Perth Amboy NJ was an appearance by Miss Universe Latina Yamilex Hernandez, who is Dominican from Perth Amboy NJ. She was greeted by cheers from the huge crowd gathered on Wilentz Field for the annual Dominican Festival. She took the stage on Sunday during a performance by Latin Music star El Blachy, and sang and danced merengue with him on stage.

The crowd was impressed as were those watching the video on Perth Amboy Now Facebook Page. Remarks included “Good to see a natural looking beautiful young woman representing.” In earlier announcements of her winning the title of Miss Latina Universe, residents of Perth Amboy commented that she taught at Shull School and was “truly a hard working dedicated person.” Others said, “Well deserved she is a great person” and “Perth Amboy Proud!” Obviously a beauty, her confidence, joy, talent and charisma shined on Sunday night onstage. Hernández will be competing at the Miss Universe competition in Thailand and we all wish her the best of luck!
