Have you ever visited the Surveyor General’s Museum in Perth Amboy? It’s a very unique small building next to the historic City Hall. Last Saturday I checked out the museum and got a preview of the show that was opening that morning. This year is the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the nation has invested money to celebrate this milestone in events that celebrate history and the ideals of the American Revolution.
Perth Amboy has the Revolutionary Lives exhibition at the museum funded by Revolution NJ. They also are funding 2 murals here produced by Perth Amboy Artworks, and more TBA. The Revolutionary Lives exhibit tells real stories of the American Revolution. The exhibit is at the Surveyor Generals Museum 260 High Street, Perth Amboy NJ from April 11-April 26. The hours vary per day see the flyer for more info. It is free and open to the public.
Some out of town people were with me Saturday, and they noted that it was a wonderful experience to come to Perth Amboy, get coffee and pastries at Noches De Columbia then walk to the museum for the show. Perth Amboy waterfront district is historic. To be able to walk to see numerous historic sites in Perth Amboy, like City Hall, City Hall Circle, the Ferry Slip, St Peters, Proprietary House and The Raritan Yacht Club (private club), is a fun morning or afternoon activity. It would be great if they were open every weekend for residents and visitors to enjoy. Perth Amboy is recently also added to the NJ Black History Trail and has numerous sites to visit and explore Thomas Peterson the first Black voter (under the 15th amendment) who lived and voted in Perth Amboy.
