Perth Amboy Schools Reopening Plan Rotating Schedule of In School and Remote Learning

Perth Amboy High School

Perth Amboy Public Schools Superintendent David Roman announced in a letter dated August 5, 2020 that Perth Amboy Schools will reopen with a hybrid schedule of full day in school instruction and scheduled days of remote learning. The reopening plan was developed by a Restart Committee which included district and school-level administrators, school board members, local education association representatives, educators, parents, students, and community leaders.  The district says it conducted surveys and collected input from all stakeholders to make informed decisions. The letter was published on the Perth Amboy Public School website, read it here.

Detailed full day instruction plans were made for Prekindergarten, Elementary (K-6), Middle School, and High School. Classes will be broken into A, B and C groups and they will alternate full days in school and days learning remotely.  The plan for remote learning is for all students to be provided with Chromebooks and students without internet at home to be provided with hotspots.

Students, staff and teachers will be required to wear masks at all times and will be provided a washable mask at the beginning of the school year.  They will be screened every morning before entering the building using thermal scanning technology or handheld forehead thermometers. Nursing staff will be given additional protective personal equipment when interacting with students and/or staff who may show signs of the virus. An isolation room will be designated at each school for students and staff who may show symptoms.  Plexiglass shields will be installed for every classroom to facilitate small group instruction.

An all remote option exists for parents. On Thursday, August 6, 2020, parents will receive correspondence from your child’s respective principals regarding next steps and you will be asked to complete the “All-Remote Registration Form” no later than Wednesday, August 12, 2020. If you do not complete the form, your child will automatically received a hybrid schedule.

The first day of school for staff will be Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Students’ first day of school will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. The district is unable to provide “courtesy transportation” throughout the 2020-2021 school year, and will focus on mandatory routes to ensure the integrity of social distancing to the best extent possible.
